Four Auburn Softball Players Selected to All-SEC Teams

The SEC's coaches selected four Auburn players to all-league teams and each was honored more than one time.

Auburn, Ala.--Four Auburn softball players were named to All-SEC teams announced by the league’s coaches on Tuesday, a day before the start of the conference’s annual tournament.

Junior right-handed pitcher Kaylee Carlson and junior catcher Carlee Wallace were double honorees. Both were first team all-league selections and were named to the conference’s all-defensive teams.

Senior third baseman Kasey Cooper is a triple honoree. She is a second team All-SEC pick and was also selected to the all-league defensive team. She was also named the SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Cooper, the first back-to-back Scholar-Athlete of the Year choice in SEC history, is a mechanical engineering major with a 3.98 earned run average. She is a two-time Academic All-American and a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, which goes to a player who excels on and of the field of competition. Cooper is one of three players in the SEC to have 40-plus RBI, 30-plus runs scored, 20-plus extra-base hits and at least five stolen bases. She successfully advanced runners at a .608 clip. She is also scheduled to play for Team USA this summer for a second straight year.

 

Right fielder Alyssa Rivera was named to the All-SEC Second Team and the All-SEC Freshman team.

Auburn, which finished second in the regular season to Florida, will be going for a third consecutive SEC Tournament championship. The Tigers, who are 45-9 overall and 17-7 in the league, drew a first round bye for the event in Knoxville, Tenn., and are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. CDT on Thursday vs. the winner of a first round game matching No. 7 seed Kentucky vs. No. 10 seed South Carolina.

Carlson leads the SEC in victories with her 25-3 record and has a 1.17 earned run average. She is the current SEC Pitcher of the Week. She led the SEC with 19 complete games with 15 in league games. She has a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 45 assists, 10 putouts and was involved in six double plays.

Wallace is batting .353 with seven homers, 47 RBI and 36 runs scored in her third season as a starter. She is tied for the sEC lead in doubles with 18 and has been involved in 13 game winning plays with either a run scored or RBI. She has a .981 fielding percentage and has caught six runners trying to steal. 

Rivera leads the Tigers in batting average at .379 and has three home runs, 25 RBI and 12 runs scored in 29 starts and 15 other games. A member of the USA Junior National Team, she leads all SEC freshmen in batting average.

Cooper is batting .301 and leads the Tigers in on-base percentage at .490. She has nine home runs, 42 RBI and 33 runs scored. During her team’s final regular season home series she set a new SEC record for career runs batted in. She is a three-time All-American and was the SEC Player of the Year as a junior.
