Hoover, Ala.--A player who has been on the radar for a big group of schools since first beginning to get offers last summer, 2018 wide receiver Shedrick Jackson recently narrowed his list to a top five schools as he prepares to take a closer look at them in the coming weeks and months.
Listing Auburn, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Mississippi State and Missouri as his top group, Jackson said he wanted to begin the process by selecting a focal group.
“It was important to narrow it down,” Jackson said. “I was thinking of doing it sooner to not really get the recruiting out of the way, but to focus on a few schools and not have to worry about people hitting up my phone all the time. I just want to get better.”
Already familiar with all of the schools on his list, Jackson said each have something they bring to the table for him at the moment.
“I like Auburn,” Jackson said. “I have been there a couple of times. I know the coaches well. At Mississippi State I know the coaches well. Coach G (Billy Gonzales), me and him are pretty tight. Memphis, I have been up there about three times and watched them scrimmage. They’ve got a pretty nice offense.
“Missouri, I don’t know much about them but they seem to have some good coaches. I have been talking to them the past couple of weeks. Georgia Tech is a great school. They’ve had some great wide receivers come out of there. I like their offense gives you a lot of one-on-one opportunities outside.”
Planning to be in Auburn for Big Cat Weekend in just over a week, Jackson said at the moment he doesn’t have a commitment date in mind and it will all come down to the right school at the right time.
“I’m going to be talking to these schools more,” Jackson said. “I don’t have a specific date. It’s just whenever I feel like the time is right and I have the right choice.”
