Hinesville, Ga.--A prospect who has been steadily picking up scholarship offers spent Saturday with the Auburn Tigers, who have joined the list of college football programs who want Tramel Walthour on their teams.
“Yes, Auburn has offered,” he said. “I believe the offer came last week. It is exciting to get an offer from a big-time school.”
Walthour, a 6-3 1/4, 270-pound class of 2018 defensive lineman, said he believes he is up to around 20 scholarship offers, including one from the Georgia Bulldogs.
Competing for Liberty County High School, Walthour plays both defensive tackle and end. He is rated as a three-star defensive tackle by Scout.com.
“I really like Auburn,” he said. “It is up there. It is one of the few schools I have visited.” He has also taken trips to the University of Georgia, Georgia Southern and the University of Kentucky.
The prospect was in Auburn on Saturday to participate in the annual Big Cat Weekend for prospects. “It was very fun,” he said. “I enjoyed the experience and I like the campus.
“I liked going around and seeing everything,” he added. “The scavenger hunt was very fun.”
In no hurry to make a decision, Walthour said his plan is to make a decision sometime near the end of his senior season.
Asked what he sees as his strengths on the football field, he said, “Using my hands, firing off the ball, getting the offensive linemen off balance trying to make a tackle.”
