Justin Fields (Kevin Carden)

Wednesday Auburn Football Recruiting Notebook

5-star QB Justin Fields, offensive linemen, Andres Fox and more are featured.

5-Star Visitor

Already with Joey Gatewood in the 2018 recruiting class, but with just three scholarship quarterbacks on campus, Auburn is in the hunt for a second quarterback this year and the top target is newly minted five-star Justin Fields from Harrison (Ga.) High.

On Tuesday he was on the Auburn campus to spend much of the day with Gus Malzahn and Chip Lindsey, which is very good news for the Tigers. Recently backing off a pledge to Penn State, Fields is perhaps the hottest prospect in the country at the moment and is getting bombarded from all sides by colleges wanting to get in the mix.

For Auburn to get a midweek visit out of Fields is very important with the home-state Georgia Bulldogs making a strong run at him along with Florida State and many others.

Big Man In The House

Another visitor this week for the Tigers was Christian Armstrong from Warner Robins, Ga. At 6-5, 335, Armstrong is a mountain of an offensive lineman and he still has a year of high school football left to play.

Making the trip along with his mom and dad, Armstrong definitely likes the Tigers and I would put them in front for him at the moment over a list of impressive programs like Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee and others.

If Auburn could land him that would be a third huge piece of the puzzle for Coach Herb Hand with in-state standout Kameron Stutts and Georgia product Jalil Irvin already on board.

What Does The Fox Say?

That’s the big question at the moment with Andres Fox looking heavily at Auburn, Alabama and LSU with Stanford and USC also making a push.

On campus for Big Cat Weekend recently, Fox is back on the Plains this week for a three-day visit to see the day-to-day activities for the players and spend even more time with the coaches.

Andres Fox helped his team reach the state championship game last season.

The top defensive end prospect in Alabama, the Mobile Christian standout is up to 6-4, 240 and could easily play in the 250 range by the time his senior season rolls around.

Running Back Target

Another expected visitor this week is four-star running back Dameon Pierce from Bainbridge, Ga. Committing to Alabama almost a year ago, Pierce backed off the pledge in May and since then has opened up his recruiting. That gave Auburn another shot to get into the mix and so far, so good for the Tigers. Looking for a complete back that has the size to run between the tackles and also the speed to take it the distance, Pierce fits the category.
