A six-foot-one, 195-pound two-way player at Gordo High School, he said that getting an offer from Auburn “would be huge” if it happened. He noted that he is also being recruited by Alabama, Mississippi State and Ole Miss.
Lanier has camped at Alabama and plans to attend a July camp at Auburn after visiting the AU campus for Big Cat Weekend, which he noted that he thoroughly enjoyed.
“It was a great experience and I had a lot of fun,” the prospect said. “I made a lot of new friends and I bonded well with the coaches. It was just a good learning experience.”
A prospect who plays cornerback, wide receiver and returns punts and kickoffs, Lanier said that Auburn is looking at him as a cornerback, but added, “Whatever they want me to play is fine.”
Lanier said he has offers from lower profile programs including in-state colleges Troy, Jacksonville State and Samford along with others such as Eastern Kentucky, UT-Martin and Jackson State.
Asked what the message to him has been from Auburn’s coaches, the prospect said, “They are telling me I am in a good position and to just keep doing what I am doing.”
