Auburn shortstop Chuck Jeroloman is healthy and moving well this fall after struggling with a knee injury late last season. Here he throws to first sporting white shoes he acquired this summer from a Clemson teammate in summer league.
Pitcher John Madden was very impressive in Wednesday's intra-squad scrimmage. A junior,the 6-5 Madden was a teammate at Seminole Community College with fellow Auburn signee Mike Hnytka. As a sophomore he was 8-4 on the mound with a 3.24 earned run average with 75 strikeouts in 86 innings or work.
Purdue transfer Tyler Johnstone is challenging for playing time on the Auburn infield and has been solid this fall. Last season he hit .310 at Purdue. He was a teammate of current Auburn first baseman Karl Amonite at Conners State Junior College in Oklahoma.
Another player looking to fill the void left by Scott Schade at third base is true freshman Cory Zimmerman from Permian High in Odessa, Tex. As a senior he hit .482 with nine home runs and 37 runs batted in.
Jeroloman's running mate in the middle is junior Tug Hulett. Last season Hulett led the team in batting with a .373 average and 25 doubles. He also added two home runs and 39 RBI.
True freshman left-hander Mike Felix delivers to the plate during Wednesday's practice. Felix is expected to challenge for one of Auburn's three spots in the starting rotation.
