Ellis Readies For "Ladies Night Out"

Auburn, Ala.-- If you are a lady and a fan of Auburn basketball, then the events scheduled for Friday night, Oct. 12, are geared directly towards you. The men's basketball program will be holding its first annual "Ladies Night Out with <b>Cliff Ellis</b>" at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum prior to the team's first practice of 2001, which is slated to begin later that evening at midnight.

The special event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 and is open to ladies of all ages. Those who participate will receive a coaching and cooking clinic by Ellis, get a chance to meet the 2001 team, take a tour of the basketball facilities and engage in a special shopping spree with different Auburn-Opelika vendors. Coach Ellis and his wife, Carolyn, will also hold a question and answer session.

"The main thing we want to do is allow the ladies to come in and have fun," Ellis says. "We're going to cook, we're going to shop and we're going to talk basketball."

Cost for "Ladies Night Out" is $30 and proceeds benefit Partnership for Children, an Auburn charity that assists low income families in paying for child care. Registration will be held from 4:30-5:30 pm at the Coliseum Oct. 12. Call the Auburn Basketball Office at 334-844-9760 for pre-registration and further information.

Practice will tip off at 12:01 a.m., Saturday morning October 13 with a full-scale scrimmage, three-point shooting contest and the ever-popular slam dunk contest. The doors open at 10 p.m. for Midnight Mayhem on Friday the 12th of October and prior to the practice there will be a special musical tribute for the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
