The squads had one common opponent during their non-conference schedules as they each suffered setbacks to No. 1 North Carolina. Auburn lost its match with the Tarheels 2-0 while the Volunteers became the only team to score on UNC so far this season in a 5-2 defeat.
The Volunteers hold a 2-0 lead in the overall series with the Tigers as they picked up wins in 1997 (5-1) and 1999 (3-2). Auburn is currently mired in a three-match winless streak after starting the season 4-0 and Tennessee has lost two straight, the latest being a 4-3 loss to No. 7 Clemson in overtime.
Each team's leading scorer has four goals as senior forward Tammy Waine leads the Tigers and freshman midfielder Sue Flamini leads the Vols. In goal for the Tigers will be freshman Megan Rivera, who has a 0.70 goals against average in seven starts. Her counterpart for the Vols will be junior Cori Stevens, who has a 1.92 goals against average.
Auburn will play Georgia Sunday at 1 p.m. at the AU Soccer Complex.
