Linebacker Prospect In Action

Alexander City, Ala.--One of the top players in the state of Alabama this season is Benjamin Russell High linebacker Tyrone Martin. At 6-1, 220 pounds, Martin is reminscient of former Wetumpka and Vanderbilt linebacker Jamie Winborn in the physical way he plays on the field.

Martin stretches before Friday night's game against Stanhope-Elmore high school.

Playing middle linebacker for one of the top defensive teams in the state, Martin has racked up big numbers for the 5-1 Wildcats. In six games Martin has 78 tackles and 9 1/2 sacks while playing only three quarters or less for much of the last four games.

Martin gets signals from the sideline as the tough Wildcat defense manhandled the Mustangs.

In Friday night's game, Martin was his usual dominant self with 12 tackles, two sacks and one fumble recovery in just over a half of football. Leading his team to a big 28-0 lead at the half, Martin was able to relax much of the second stanza.

A summer camp standout at Auburn this summer, he is being recruited by the Tigers, Georgia Tech, Alabama and several other SEC and ACC schools.
