Full Size Tight End Plans Recruiting Trip To AU

A very large high school tight end is making Auburn one of his four stops on the recruiting trail.

Harvey, La.--Auburn is looking to sign a tight end in its 2004 football class. One of the possibilities is big Jeremy Jones from West Jefferson High School.

Jones is scheduled to visit Auburn on the 23rd. Last weekend he took his first official visit to Mississippi State. This week he has a trip planned to Alabama and he plans a Jan. 30th trip to Baton Rouge to check out LSU.

"I am interested in Auburn, but I will know more about that after I make my visit there," says Jones. "Greg Knox is recruiting me for Auburn. I went to Mississippi State and that visit was good. It was nice."

Jones, who says he currently checks in at six-foot-four, 280 pounds with a time of 4.8 in the 40, is currently rehabbing from a torn ACL that ended his season after nine games. The injury is keeping him off the basketball court, but he did manage to make 26 catches.

Prior to the 2003 football season, Jones had never played football at West Jefferson. "I was a basketball player," he says. "Right now, I am still getting over my knee injury so I can't play basketball."

Coming off a national championship season, LSU looks to be the team to beat for all in-state prospects. Jones says he likes the Bayou Bengals, but adds that he is keeping an open mind as he goes to his other recruiting visits. "I am real open," he says.

In addition to football, he is going to be checking out the academics at each school he attends. "I want to major in chemical engineering," he notes.
