Mayo was one of the most impressive football prospects of the thousands who attended summer football camps at AU. An early verbal commitment to the Tigers, Mayo had second thoughts and added several other teams to his mix. A week earlier he visited Ole Miss and has one more stop before making a final decision on his college choice.
"They did a wonderful job with the recruiting visit this weekend," said Bill Mayo, the offensive lineman's father and a former lineman himself at the University of Tennessee. "Cameron enjoyed the trip and I did, too. He has a visit scheduled to Tennessee next weekend and after that he will be finished."
If Mayo signs with the Tigers, it will give the Tigers a Dalton High player in their signee class for a second straight year. Current Auburn freshman Cole Bennett plays tight end for the Tigers and saw significant action in his first year out of high school.
Mayo has also been recruited by Florida, Clemson, South Carolina and a variety of others. Mayo, who measured 6-3 1/2, 256 pounds at the AU camp, is still growing. He just turned 17 last summer. Mayo is an honor student and will have no problem qualifying.
