Athletic Linebacker To Decide After Visit

This athletic prospect is headed to Auburn this weekend to check out the Tigers.

Powder Springs, Ga.—Sometimes players can be the best recruiters of other players and there is little doubt that is the case with linebacker prospect Gerald McRath from McEachern High. A 6-3, 210-pounder with good athleticism and a nose for the ball, McRath says a former teammate has been telling him very good things about Auburn and he's anxious to get a final look at the Tigers before making a decision.

"I just like the program, the staff and most of the players that I know," McRath tells Inside The Auburn Tigers on why he's visiting the Tigers this weekend. "I know Jarrod Britt, he graduated from my high school last year. I really like the atmosphere, the people and the environment. The whole town is just a great place. I just really like the whole place in general. Just being down there I feel good about it.

"All I hear is good things about Auburn," McRath tells Inside The Auburn Tigers . "He had me wanting to go there before I was even being recruited. Having him down there would help a great deal going through learning the system. That plays a big role in my decision."

With three trips under his belt, McRath says that he has plenty to compare Auburn with on his visit this weekend, but the weather should definitely be an improvement on the Plains as compared to his trip to one Mountain West school.

"I've been to Southern Miss, BYU and East Carolina," McRath says. "BYU was really different. It was something new for me being in that area. I've never been around so much snow at one time. It was a beautiful campus. It was just a new experience for me all together. It was about 23 degrees and they took us snowmobiling. The snow came up to my knees."

Although he has one visit remaining if he elects to take it McRath says that the Auburn visit will wrap up the process for him at least. After having Auburn as his leader for much of the fall he says he hopes to be done with recruiting by early next week at the latest.

"I plan on making a decision by Monday," McRath says. "It will probably be Sunday night. Sunday night if I can get back home in time to make a sound decision I will do it then. If not it will be Monday. I'm just looking for a place that I fit in and looking for a place that wants me. I also want to see the relationship a team has with the coaching staff."
