In-State Prospect Sets Visit To AU

This prospect discusses his interest in playing football for Auburn.

Prichard, Ala.--Linebacker Chris Evans from Blount High School picked the father over the son when it came time to schedule his official recruiting visit this weekend.

"I was going to Louisville, but I cancelled that visit so I can go to Auburn," Evans says. "Auburn hasn't offered me a scholarship, but I am hoping to get an offer this weekend."

Joe Whitt, Sr., the veteran Auburn linebacker coach who scouts prospects in the Mobile area, is recruiting the four-year starter on behalf of the Tigers. Joe Whitt, Jr., a former receiver and graduate assistant coach at Auburn who moved on to The Citadel and then to Louisville, is recruiting Evans for the Louisville Cardinals.

Evans says he has 13 scholarship offers and hopes AU will be number 14. "I have been offered by The Citadel where I visited last week, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, a lot of the SWAC schools like Jackson State and others. Overall, I think I have been contacted by more than 30 colleges."

He has played both inside and outside linebacker at Blount. He notes that colleges are recruiting him as an outside linebacker and a safety. He had 105 tackles as a senior and says he is currently 6-0, 217 pounds with 4.58 speed in the 40 after making All-Region for a third straight season. He was also named MVP of Blount's team.

One of the reasons he is interested in Auburn is the school of engineering. "That is what I am considering for my college major along with computer science," says Evans, who has a 4.0 grade point average and is a member of the National Honor Society.

In addition to academics, Evans says he likes Auburn's football tradition. "I went to some games this season at Auburn against USC, Ole Miss and Alabama and I like the tradition, the fans and the excitement," he says.
