Talented Prospect From Tennessee Chooses Tigers

This talented defensive tackle had one of the most productive seasons possible for a lineman.

Chattanooga, Tenn.--One of the South's most dominant defensive tackles signed on the dotted line with Auburn on Wednesday when big Greg Smith inked with the Tigers.

The 6-3, 295-pounder earned Class 2A Player of the Year honors in Tennessee for his strong senior season and could be a force for the Tigers down the road.

As a senior Smith had 164 tackles, 37 tackles for losses, 11 caused fumbles and two fumble recoveries for the 12-2 Tyner team that lost deep in the Tennessee state playoffs. A commitment to Auburn on Dec. 10, he had offers from Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina and several other schools before choosing the Tigers.

Because of suspect academics Smith is expected to be a sign and place player in a junior college to begin his career. A hard worker and motivated player, it won't come as a surprise if he's back on Auburn's radar in two seasons.
