Speedy Back Signs With Tigers

Auburn's fastest signee has a chance to help immediately on special teams next season as a true freshman.

Morgan City, La.--Standout running back Jerald Watson confirmed his commitment to Auburn on Wednesday when he signed a National Letter of Intent with the Tigers at a ceremony at his high school.

The two-time All-State selection had offers from dozens of schools, but felt like Auburn was the right place for him to play football and attend school.

A 5-10, 205-pound speedster, Watson rushed for over 5,500 yards in his career and was a commitment to the LSU Tigers before deciding on Auburn. He also looked at Florida State, Mississippi State and others.

Watson, who has also played cornerback, linebacker and free safety on defense, is a three-sport standout. His speed comes in handy in track and field and in baseball as a center fielder where he hit a blistering .565 as a junior. His performances on the track have also been impressive. "I broke two national indoor records in the 60-meters," he says. "I broke the high school freshman record in the 60 in 6.74 and the sophomore record with a time of 6.73.
