Tall Offensive Lineman Signs With Tigers

This large offensive lineman should be full speed when Auburn begins practice in August.

Russellville, Ala.--Auburn added to its depth up front on the offensive line Wednesday when big John Watts signed with the Tigers after considering offers from Nebraska and Louisville among others. The nearly 6-7, 267-pounder says he grew up an Auburn fan and is ready to live out a dream to play for the Tigers.

A two-year starter at Russellville after backing up a current Stanford offensive lineman, Watts had a breakthrough senior season until going down with a torn ACL during the third round of the Class 5A playoffs. Despite the injury he returned to play in the state title game against Briarwood Christian. He had surgery on Dec. 31 to repair the damage and says he'll be full speed when he reports to Auburn during the summer.

"He's potentially a tremendous football player," his Coach Perry Swindall says. "I think his best football is ahead of him. He's just now growing into his body. He's still light and I think definitely his best football is down the road. As he continues to mature and grow he's going to be a great football player."
