Linebacker Signs On Dotted Line With Tigers

This tackling machine should add some solid depth for the Tigers at linebacker.

Butler, Ala.--Merrill Johnson, who recorded 401 tackles and 20 sacks in his career at Choctaw County High School, officially became an Auburn Tiger Wednesday as he signed on the dotted line to play for Tommy Tuberville's team.

The speedy linebacker, who has 4.54 speed in the forty, will no longer be getting up at 5:30 each morning to lay shingles with his dad. Instead he will be getting up around 5:30 each morning to attend Coach Kevin Yoxall's strength and conditioning program.

Johnson chose the Tigers over West Virginia, UAB and Arkansas. The four-year starter also gained over 400 yards rushing his senior season for Choctaw County.

Johnson, who is 6-1, 195-pounds, racked up 184 of his 401 tackles in his senior season along with nine sacks and four caused fumbles.
