Soccer Tigers Win SEC West Title

Tuscaloosa, Ala. --Auburn clinched a share of the SEC West women's soccer title with a 2-1 overtime victory over Alabama on Friday night.

Freshman Michelle Mione scored the game-winner five minutes into overtime to give Auburn its first divisional title.

The Tigers improved to 5-4 in the conference and 9-6-1 overall. Alabama fell to 2-6-1 in the SEC and 10-7-1 in all games. Auburn will play Georgia on Thursday in the opening round of the SEC Tournament in Baton Rouge.

Auburn took the lead early in the second half on a goal by Sarah Steinmann, but the home team scored late to send the contest into overtime.

Coach Karen Richeter said, "We could not be more excited and not be more proud of this team. We have been in this overtime situation so many times this year and that experience finally paid off. The kids did a great job of stepping up in the overtime."
