He has already picked up three big-time offers, and more should be on the way shortly.
The standout lineman named Georgia as the team to beat the last time we spoke. Is that still the case?
"My top five is Auburn, Georgia, Ole Miss, Alabama, and Maryland," he noted. "Georgia is my leader. I have always liked them and they have shown me the most interest even though they haven't offered yet."
The Rebels are also high on the upcomming seniors list of top schools.
"Ole Miss is my number two team," Smith said. "They have shown me a lot of interest and I have heard a lot of good things about them."
What stands out about the other colleges on Ian's list?
Auburn: "I really like the town, and I have been a fan of them also."
Alabama: "I like Tuscaloosa, and I like the coaching staff a lot."
Maryland: "I haven't seen the campus up there yet, but I've heard good things about the whole program."
As for what the top prospect thinks he does best at the high school level, Smith said he is more comfortable with the power game.
"I think I am a better run blocker than anything, Smith explained. "I'm more of a go right at them type of guy, instead of sitting back and waiting for them to come at me."
The Purple Hurricanes' standout also said that he already has some idea of the qualities he is looking for in his college of choice and noted that he has a timeframe in mind for making a decision.
"I'm looking at the coaching staff and the players that are already there to see if I can fit in," Smith said. "I'm going to try and make a decision sometime within the next football season."
Smith plans on attending camps at Georgia, Ole Miss and Auburn over the summer. He also projects as a full academic qualifier, which will be a plus for whichever college he decides to attend.
