Quarterback Hill Has New Leader

One of the top prospects in Florida, Carlton Hill, has a new leader following a summer camp visit.

Monticello, Fla.--Jefferson County High quarterback Carlton Hill left for camp at the University of Miami last week with other schools at the top of his list. That has since changed.

"After spending three days at their camp and working with their coaches, Miami's my favorite right now," Hill said. "I love everything about them. They really opened my eyes this week."

Hill, who goes 6-3 and 210 pounds, didn't participate in the testing drills on Saturday because he was nursing a groin injury from last week. However, when 1-on-1 drills started, he wasn't about to miss those. "I was ready," he said. "I had some real nice receivers to throw to. A dude named Jessie (Hester) was the best one I thought. He was real quick and dominant. I'd love to play with him in high school.

"Another guy, Mike (Moore), was good, too. He didn't come out there (Monday) though. They both work hard, they both fight."

Hill said it wasn't easy throwing against some quality defensive backs at the camp either. He talked about some of them. "One cat (Dorian Munroe) had 11 or 12 picks in the three days," he said. "He was a real good safety. There was a cornerback from New Jersey that was big and real good."

Hill, who won the Offensive MVP Award, also participated in drills as a receiver. "I wanted to show them that I could work out at receiver, too," he said. "I was doing my thing out there. I went against Rolle and did him."

Hill said while UM is the current favorite, he's not going to rush into any decisions. "I was talking to the coaches and they were saying how that would be a great place for me," he said. "Miami's got a real good family atmosphere. I'm thinking real highly of them right now. I think it would be a great place to be. After that, I also like Michigan State and Purdue."

Hill, who has already received a passing test score, plans to camp at South Florida later this week.
