South Carolina Prospect Looking At Auburn

This offensive lineman plans to visit Auburn before making a choice on his favorite college.

Camden, S.C.--Thomas Austin, a 6-foot-4, 270 pound offensive line prospect from Camden High, attended the Clemson football camp this summer and says he came close to ending his recruitment early.

"I came very close to committing to Clemson when I was at the three day camp," Austin said. "It went very well. I really enjoyed it. I had made a commitment to visit Auburn so I decided to do that."

Last week, Austin traveled to Tennessee where he hoped to visit Vanderbilt and the Vols. "I went to Vanderbilt first. I was there for about 4 hours. It was a good visit. They have a beautiful campus. I got stuck in some bad traffic so I didn't make it to Tennessee. I plan to visit Auburn on July 14 or 17."

When asked when he thinks he may be ready to make his commitment, Austin responded, "I want to visit Auburn first. It depends on how that goes. If it's a real good visit then I want make a decision. If it's just okay I may go ahead and make my commitment."

"I would like to make a commitment before the season starts. I want to get it out of the way for the team. That puts everything to rest so I can concentrate on the season. If I don't know I will not make that decision. Clemson, Vanderbilt and Auburn are my top schools."

The prize recruit is working hard to make sure he is ready to lead Camden this season. "I'm lifting 3 days a week and doing a lot of conditioning. I am working hard. I'm optimistic about this season."

Austin is also taking some time out this summer to enjoy himself. "I recently got back from a cousins wedding in Maryland. I will probably go up to visit some family at Maggie Valley in North Carolina around July 4th."
