Ciampi's Team Looking To Go 6-0

Auburn, Ala.--With five wins in five tries, the Auburn women's basketball will face what is expected to be its toughest test yet as it entertains Syracuse on Thursday night at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.

Tipoff time is 7 p.m. as the Orangewomen bring a 3-1 record into the contest. Auburn has a 3-0 all-time record vs. Syracuse.

Coach Joe Ciampi's Tigers won 80-62 on Monday night in their first road game of the season at Furman. Sophomore forward Le'Coe Willingham put on a strong performance in South Carolina with 23 points and 16 rebounds.

Sophomore center Tia Miller leads Auburn in scoring at 13.3 points per game and she also is averaging seven rebounds per contest. Willingham is averaging 12.6 points and a team-leading eight rebounds per game.

Senior Carol Smith, who is making a successful move from shooting guard to point guard, is averaging 10.3 points per game and 3.8 assists. She did not have a turnover on Monday. Syracuse is 3-0 on the road with victories at Long Beach State, Cal State-Northridge and Pepperdine. The loss was to 18th-ranked Michigan at home last week. Sophomore guard Julie McBride leads Syracuse with 19.8 points and 5.3 assists per game.

Auburn is unranked but the Tigers are playing well and should be in the Top 25 soon if they continue to their solid play on both offense and defense.
