Speedy Defensive End Prospect Likes Tigers

The quick defensive end from the Peach State has the Tigers among his early list of favorites.

Americus, Ga.--Jeremy Hawkins was visibly the quickest defensive end at Auburn's camp a few weeks ago and he's starting to pick up D-I interest now as well.

So, who has made his top five so far?

"I like Auburn, Southern Mississippi, Louisville, Middle Tennessee and Florida State," the 6-3, 212-pound defender said. "Auburn, Southern Mississippi and Louisville are showing me the most interest right now."

What stands out about the schools on his list?

Auburn: "I like the facilities they have there. I got to know Coach Price and Coach Nall pretty well when I was at camp also."

Southern Miss: "It's close to home and they usually have a great program. They have beaten some big time teams."

Louisville: "I like Coach Summers a lot. He's real talkative and just an all around nice guy."

MTSU: "They call him Coach 'Q'. He came to see me at the school and I like his personality."

Florida State: "That's kind of my dream school. I love Bobby Bowden and Americus has a tradition at FSU."

What is most important to Hawkins when choosing a school?

"It's all about academics," Hawkins explained. "I'd like to be close to home and I want to go to a place where I feel like I'm wanted as well."

Will Hawkins camp anywhere else other than Auburn this summer?

"I wanted to go to a couple of camps, but I didn't have a ride, the upcoming senior said. "I'd like to go to Southern Miss on July 17th."

Americus is combining with Sumter County High School to form a new AAAA team this fall and Hawkins said he has has enjoyed the transition.

"I've met all the coaches and all the players already," he noted. "I'm real excited because every game is going to be big. Were looking to go deep in the playoffs and we can't wait to play Early County in our first game. That's always a big rivalry."
