Tigers Lead For Georgia Defensive End

Allen Wallace interviews a highly regarded rising senior football prospect.

Atlanta, Ga.--Defensive end Roderick Battle (6-3, 240, 4.75) says Auburn (camp) leads very slightly over Georgia, Clemson (camp), Vanderbilt and Alabama (camp).

"I like (Auburn) coach (Terry) Price," Battle says. "I think we've established a good relationship. I'm able to call him up and talk to him a lot."

Roderick, who attends Douglass High School, plans to make an official visit to Georgia in the fall and an also unofficial visit within a month to the Athens campus

"If I had to choose right now, I'd choose Auburn only because I don't know the Georgia coaches yet. I haven't gotten in touch with them lately. So I haven't gotten to ask him if I can play right away or not. But I met coach (Rodney) Garner once and he seemed like a cool, upbeat guy. I like the fact that he's got a good coaching reputation.

"I like the fact that at Auburn I can compete for a chance at a starting spot right away," he says. "I like Georgia because I'd have a chance to come in and play for a national championship team.

"After I get to talk to the Georgia coaches and ask questions, I'll be able to start making my decision. I want to choose before school starts.

"One of my biggest strengths is that I read the offense really well. I'm also always working really hard all summer to get ready. I just need to work on strength and quickness."
