Louisiana Prep Standout Says AU Is His Leader

This football prospect explains why he likes the Tigers and gives his thoughts on other colleges recruiting him.

New Orleans, La.--Alonzo Horton was one of the standout performers at the New Orleans MSL combine earlier this year and he now has a clear leader for his services.

"I'm looking at Auburn, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Miami, Nebraska and Michigan State," he says. "Auburn is my leader right now."

Alonzo Horton

What has put the Tigers on top for the 6-2 1/2, 215-pounder from Abrahamson-Marion High?

"Auburn is in the SEC, which is the best conference, and they were the first to offer me a scholarship. I also like their style of play."

What does Horton like about the other teams on his list?

LSU: "I thought they would offer when Saban came to my practice, but I still like them a lot."

Florida: "They're a powerhouse in the SEC."

Tennessee: "Basically the same as Florida. They are another powerhouse in the SEC."

Miami: "It's just the place to be."

Nebraska: "I love their tradition."

Michigan State: "They aren't really known for putting out defensive players so I think that's the place I could go in and make an immediate impact."

Horton has received quite a few phone calls since September began. "Ole Miss was the first school to call me," he says. "Two head coaches called and they were Coach Bunting at UNC and Coach Smith at Michigan State. I liked the coach at West Virginia and Coach Knox (receivers coach Greg Knox) at Auburn the most."

How has this season started off for Alonzo? "We lost our first game but were going to bounce back. This is my first year at linebacker so I got a lot of stuff to learn."
