Five-Star Defensive Tackle Gives Visit High Marks

This big-time prospect talks about his impressions of his visit to Auburn last weekend and the Tigers' 10-9 victory over LSU.

Waynesboro, Miss.--Jerrell Powe is one of the most physically impressive high school prospects in the country and the 6-3, 330-pound defensive tackle was in Auburn this past weekend to see the Tigers play and says he really enjoyed the atmosphere.

"It was crazy up there," Powe says about his weekend on the Plains. "I liked that. The fans showed a lot of enthusiasm and they never gave up on them. I knew they were going to win anyway."

The quick and powerful defensive tackle adds that that a couple of moments really stood out about the experience. "The Tiger Walk for one thing," Powe says about what he liked best about the trip. "I liked just being back there when Courtney caught the ball. Man, that was crazy."

He also notes that he got to talk with some of the Auburn players and coaches following the game. "Yeah, I got to hang out with Octavious (Balkcom), Ben Grubbs and T.J. Jackson," Powe notes. "I got to talk to Coach (Don) Dunn in the locker room--Coach Dunn, Coach Chizik, Coach Price and a lot of other coaches. We just talked about the game. And they were basically telling me it is a good place to come."

Big Jerrell Powe is shown at an Auburn practice this fall with his former teammate Mike McLaughlin.

Overall, Powe says that the visit would have to get a very good score. "I would rate it an 8.5," he notes.

The big defensive tackle says that Auburn is still his leader, and after such a good visit over the weekend he adds that the lead has grown a bit. "Yeah, right now because it is the one I know," he says about Auburn being his leader. "(They have) a little bit stronger lead after this weekend."

Despite the Tigers' making a small gain at the top of his list, Powe says that everything else on his list of favorites is still about the same. "Top three is still Auburn, Nebraska and Miami right now, and LSU," he explains.
