Tigers Add Early Football Signees

The football Tigers had some news on the recruiting front on Wednesday.

Auburn, Ala.--The Tigers re-signed a pair of prospects from their 2001 signing class on Wednesday, the first day of the December signing period.

Auburn is re-signing wide receiver Anthony Mix out of Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia, who played his high school football at Baldwin County High in Bay Minette, Ala. Mix is 6-5, 225 pounds and runs a 4.45 40. He was a three-sport standout in high school who chose Auburn over Tennessee, Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss and others.

The Tigers also re-signed defensive and offensive lineman Antwarn Franklin from Woodlawn High in Birmingham. The 6-5, 310-pounder chose Auburn over South Carolina, Alabama, Ole Miss, Arkansas and others.

The Tigers have not signed any junior college prospects. Defensive end Seante Williams from Coffeyville, Kan., Community College and Pensacola, Fla., had hoped to graduate early from junior college but that has not happened. The 6-5, 265-pounder is a class shy of graduation and will have to take care of that before signing again with the Tigers. He still has three years of Division I eligibility.

Two early high school graduates will get scholarships. Defensive end Brian Kuhn is a 6-5, 250, 4.6 All-State performer from Crescent City, Fla., High School Quarterback/athlete Wesley Smithis 6-3, 215, 4.8 from Crisp County High in Cordele, Ga.

The Tigers used a 2001 scholarship to re-sign linebacker Lemarcus Rowell from Opelika High. The 6-2 1/2, 218-pounder is already practicing with the team and has been since Saturday. He was a Parade All-American who was considered the state of Alabama's top defensive prospect in 2001, but he was sidelined academically to an NCAA bureaucratic blunder that was just discovered this month.

The latest commitment for the 2002 signee class is from 6-1, 185, 4.5 wide receiver Toby Zeigler from Neville High in Monroe. Other public verbal commitments from high school seniors include Tyrone Martin, 6-1, 214, 4.5, LB, Benjamin Russell High, Alex City; 6-4 1/2, 250, 4.8 TE Lawrence Lilly from Montevallo; 6-1, 195, 4.4 DB Brandon Williams from Shaw High in Columbus, Ga.; 6-3, 230, 4.6 Ath. Greg Wilkerson from Bowdon, Ga., High; 6-9, 250, 4.6 TE Justin Bruce from Pepperell High in Lindale, Ga.; 6-4 1/2, 217, 4.6 DB Kevin Sears from Russellville; 6-2, 250, 4.9 center William Ward from Prattville; 6-2, 215, 4.5 LB Oliver King from North Surry High in Mount Airy, N.C., and 6-2, 230, 4.6 LB Kevis Burnam from Macon County High in Montezuma, Ga.
