"I really, really enjoyed my visit," Gonzalez tells Inside the Auburn Tigers. "I am speechless."
Gonzalez says that he liked everything about the visit, but says that one thing stood out. "The game was something," he says. "It was awesome."
Auburn moved to 10-0 on the season with a 24-6 victory over its oldest rival, Georgia, on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Gonzalez and Louisiana wide receiver Lucas Taylor were the two high school seniors on the Auburn campus for official visits.
"I met more than half of the players on the team," Gonzalez says. "They are cool people."
The 6-6, 285 lineman says that was impressed by others he encountered in Auburn on his trip for the weekend. "I really liked everybody I met," he says. "The people in Auburn are really nice."
Gonzalez was one of the most impressive players at any of the Auburn summer football camps. He got an offer from the Tigers after his performance there and in July the Hialeah Senior High standout decided that is where he would play college football.
Sometimes very early public verbal commitments have a change of heart, but in this case that seems unlikely. "I am going to be at Auburn next season to play football," Gonzalez says, noting that he is very happy with his college choice.
An excellent all-around athlete who has played on both sides of the ball in college, he had a 34-inch vertical leap at the Miami MSL Combine in the spring. He showed excellent agility in that combine and his summer camp performance at Auburn. Gonzalez also wrestles for Hialeah.
