A senior from Pointe Coupe Catholic High School, he was one of 16 prospects in for an official visit this weekend for the first round of January official visits.
His mother said on Sunday night that the family will have an announcement locally on his college choice, which is expected to be Auburn. She declined to say that he was coming to Auburn, but did say he was not planning any additional visits.
A player who is known for his ability to rush the quarterback (20 sacks as a senior), he is expected to bolster the Tigers at a position short in numbers with three seniors graduating, including both starters, James Callier and Javor Mills.
An honor student and three-sport star, Derozan says he has also been considering Missouri, Southern Miss and Grambling, which is located near his hometown.
Tiger Ticket Extra: On the football field, Derozan has played seven positions during his five varsity seasons. He says his best spots are outside linebacker and defensive end. End is the position that Auburn is recruiting him to play. As a senior, he played defensive end, defensive tackle and outside linebacker as well as fullback, tight end and wide receiver...He is currently playing basketball. Derozan averages 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots per game as a forward for Pointe Coupe Catholic. He has started since his freshman season...As a junior he qualified for the state meet in the shot put with a 46-foot toss. He also qualified in the triple jump going an impressive 43 feet, seven inches. He long jumps 20 feet, one inch and high jumps six-foot-six. After track is finished, he plays AAU basketball so there is very little down time for the honor student, who was also being recruited by nearby Grambling and Southern Miss.
