Top Defensive Prospect Says Tigers Deserve A Shot

This dominating defensive lineman talks about Auburn's season and the schools that make up his top five.

Elizabethtown, Ken.—-Standout defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick is still open on his college choice, but he's got a pretty good idea of which school should be playing in the Orange Bowl for the national title. Looking at Auburn in addition to Kentucky, Louisville, Alabama, Michigan State and Florida, Deaderick says that the Tigers should be playing for it all on Jan. 4 instead of in the Sugar Bowl.

"They're a good team, really good," Deaderick tells Inside The Auburn Tigers. "In my opinion they are the best in the nation. You go 12-0 in the SEC, that's saying something. USC and Oklahoma are good teams, but who have they played? Oklahoma is going to play a Texas and one or two out-of-conference games, but you cannot compare the Big 12 to the SEC at all."

For that reason Deaderick's list is mostly made up of teams from the Southeastern Conference. One of the South's top defensive linemen, the 6-4, 255 Deaderick has offers from schools all over after earning area defensive player of the year and lineman of the year honors as well as being named All-State. He has already started the visiting process with a trip to Kentucky last weekend and has had coaches in his house all week.

"It went well," he says of his trip to Kentucky. "It was a nice little visit. I already knew a lot about the school and I just wanted to check out the campus. I'm going to Louisville this Friday, Alabama on Jan. 7 and Auburn on the 14th.

"I've had coaches from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan State, Kentucky and Louisville come through," he adds. "That's about it at the moment. Right now it's those five schools and Florida. I'm going to hear those guys out and see what they have to say."

Florida is a school that has come full circle and finds itself in the hunt once again for Deaderick. Following the firing of Coach Ron Zook, Deaderick says the Gators didn't contact him for a long time. That changed this week when the Florida staff of Urban Meyer began to assemble and begin recruiting.

"Florida is back on the scene now," Deaderick says. "They called tonight (Wednesday). It has been a while since I heard from them, really since the Zook firing. I had not heard from them since."

Planning on making a decision before signing day, Deaderick says there are certain things he's looking for out of a school and he hopes to be able to make his choice in the days following his final visit.

"With the football part they've all got what I want, which is early playing time," Deaderick says. "I want to be able to come in and contribute. I guess I'm looking for a place where I feel most comfortable and how I like it after the visits."
