Recruiting Notes & Quotes

A variety of football prospects are featured in the report.

Linebacker Oliver King, a 6-2, 215-pounder from North Surry High in Mount Airy, N.C., will not be signing with the Tigers. His coach, Kirk Martin, says that King will have to go to prep school or junior college to qualify to sign with a Division I college.

"He likes Auburn and is still very interested in going to school there if things work out," Martin says. The coach says that he expects King will attend either Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia this fall or Butler County Community College in Kansas, the school that sent Rudi Johnson and Daniel Cobb to Auburn.

Recruiting Notes: A prospect who had originally scheduled a visit with Auburn this weekend, defensive tackle Luis Rivas from Coral Park, Fla., High, is expected to reschedule for the 25th. The Tigers are scheduled to entertain 19 prospects this weekend. QB/Athlete Chansi Stuckey from Northside High in Warner Robins, Ga., is expected to be a late arrival due to a conflict with basketball games. He is considered a college prospect in that sport, too. He is 6-0, 175 with 4.5 speed...St. Augustine High defensive end and tight end John Doucette was a player who had planned to visit AU, but that is not going to happen. With just nine visit slots expected to be left for the Tigers for the final two recruiting weekends, AU appears to be saving those for prime prospects. Doucette obviously doesn't fall into that category. He is expected to sign with Georgia Tech.

Offensive lineman Marcus McNeill is visiting Auburn this weekend and he would be a huge addition to the Tigers' signee class. The six-foot-eight McNeil was scheduled to visit Miami the week after his trip to Auburn, but says he is planning to reschedule that visit until the first weekend in February. He is considering Tennessee, Miami, Georgia Tech and North Carolina. "I like them all," he says. "I won't know for sure where I am going until after my final visit. I will probably wait to announce it on signing day (Feb. 6th)." McNeill is 6-8, 315 and is also a standout basketball player at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Ga...The Tigers are also recruiting McNeill's football and basketball teammate, offensive lineman Jonathan Palmer, who is scheduled to visit Auburn on the 25th. Palmer is doing a double-visit this weekend with trips to Clemson and North Carolina, taking advantage of the Monday holiday for Martin Luther King's birthday...Defensive end Brandon Cannon, who visited Auburn last weekend, says he will sign with Maryland, but that hasn't stopped him from still looking. He says he will take an official visit to Clemson this weekend. Cannon is from Stephenson High in Stone Mountain, Ga. Auburn is recruiting his high school teammate, cornerback DeMario Minter, who is scheduled to visit AU next weekend.
