Big Lineman Narrows Choice To Two Colleges

Auburn and another SEC football power are the finalists for this large and productive high school senior.

Memphis, Tenn.--Defensive lineman Dan Williams has heard from a variety of colleges from the SEC, Big 12, ACC and other conferences who would like to sign the big tackle, but the Memphis East star says he has tuned out every college coaching staff except for two.

"I have got it down to two schools--it is going to be either Auburn or Tennessee," the six-foot-four, 320-pounder told Inside the Auburn Tigers.

Williams has already taken his official visit to Auburn. He came to AU's campus in December and watched the Tigers prepare for the Sugar Bowl game, which they won vs. Virginia Tech to finish 13-0.

On Friday he plans to travel across the state to Knoxville to check out the Tennessee Volunteers. "Basically, I have already been to campus there," he notes. "I want to see how the players are and hang around them.

"I want to check out the academic side at Tennessee," he adds. "I have seen the stadium, the locker room and those things."

Commenting on the Tigers, he says, "I enjoyed taking the visit to Auburn and seeing the team practice," he says. "That gave me a good idea of how it is going to be when I am in college, not just how it is on game day."

Williams says he watched the Tigers play in the Sugar Bowl and was glad to see them finish with a victory. He completed his senior season by playing in a local all-star game after being named All-Metro and All-State by both AP and the Tennessee Sportswriters Association.

As a senior for a 6-5 team, he was a busy defensive player as a senior. He was in on 132 tackles, including 88 solo stops. He was in on 85 tackles as a junior.
