Bluechip Tight End Signs With Tigers

This two-way standout has signed scholarship papers with the Tigers on National Signing Day.

Mobile, Ala.--Gabe McKenzie, a four-star tight end from Davidson High School in Mobile, signed with the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday.

McKenzie committed to the Tigers on Jan. 19, the same day as fellow tight end (commit/signee) Tommy Trott of Montgomery. Both McKenzie and Trott said when they committed that they are excited about the role of the tight end in the Auburn offense under coordinator Al Borges.

Both also said they are looking forward to playing for Auburn tight end coach Steve Ensminger.

Despite playing in a running offense, 14 of McKenzie's 26 catches as a senior were good for touchdowns as a senior. He had 367 yards receiving in his final year at Davidson and 15 receptions for 200 yards and three scores as a junior. He was also a standout on defense and his coaches at Davidson High say that he is a talented player who should only get better as a collegian.

McKenzie (6-3, 220) was selected as an 6A All-State selection his senior season. He chose Auburn over Alabama and Miami. He had offers from a variety of other players.
