Defensive Back Signs With AU

This in-state player made his decsion final and signed with Auburn on national signing day.

Decatur, Ala.--The Auburn defense lost Thorpe Award-winning cornerback Carlos Rogers to graduation following the 2004 season, but signed one of the state's top skill-position players on Wednesday in cornerback Jerraud Powers.

Powers took his official visit to the Plains prior to Christmas and informed the AU coaches shortly after that he was going to play his college football at Auburn.

He played receiver and cornerback for Decatur High School, but will play defense at Auburn. He collected 46 tackles, two forced fumbles and four interceptions as a senior, despite other teams rarely throwing his way.

Powers (5-9, 170) is one of the in-state prospects who chose the Tigers over the Tide this year following Auburn's third consecutive victory in the rivalry. He also chose Auburn over Louisville, Memphis, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt.

Powers attracted the attention of college coaches with his quickness and man to man coverage skills.
