Tigers Go West For Defensive Line Recruit

Auburn goes West for a Texas defensive lineman.

Beaumont, Tex.--Auburn received a rare signing day fax from the state of Texas when defensive tackle Brian West sent his letter of intent.

West (6-4, 260) was a first team 4A All-State selection as a senior after making 98 tackles and 10 sacks for Ozen High. His primary contact at Auburn was former defensive coordinator Gene Chizik, but West stayed committed to the Tigers after Chizik left to coach at the University of Texas.

West took an official visit to Auburn the weekend that the Tigers beat Georgia 24-6, and committed about a month later on Dec. 20.

He selected Auburn over Texas Tech, Southern Methodist and others.

West notes that having a sister who lives not far from Auburn in Atlanta was a factor in considering the Tigers as well as the fact he felt very comfortable with the people he met on his official visit to AU. He says that Auburn is a "good fit for me".
