Duckworth Announces That He Will Be A Tiger

The All-State lineman says that he will sign with Auburn on Wednesday.

Taylorsville, Miss.--The Tigers picked up a big verbal commitment from one of the top line prospects in the Southeast on Monday when Timmy Duckworth announced that he will sign with Auburn on Wednesday.

In an interview with Inside the Auburn Tigers on Monday, he said, "I am going to sign with Auburn. I feel like Auburn is the best place for me. I am looking forward to coming in right away and challenging for playing time. I don't say I am going to start, but I want to play as a freshman."

Timmy Duckworth announced on Monday that he will sign with the Tigers.

Duckworth narrowed his choices to four schools before eliminating Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Mississippi State.

He has developed a reputation as one of the strongest and most imposing line prospects in the Southeast this year. He has explosive quickness off the line of scrimmage combined with good all-around athlete ability and lots of strength. He was a second team All-State pick as as a junior.

Tiger Ticket Extra: While his other finalists had the in-state recruiting advantage, the Tigers had an ace in the hole with quarterback Jason Campbell on the Plains. The former prep All-American from Taylorsville High is the second cousin and a friend of Duckworth's. Duckworth said that was a factor. "It is good to have somebody you know and trust where you are going to college. I also feel like I can trust the Auburn coaches--Coach (Don) Dunn, Coach (Terry) Price and Coach (Tommy) Tuberville. Dunn is the area coach who recruits Taylorsville and Price will be Duckworth's college position coach...Duckworth is going to be cutting it close academically on qualifying as a freshman. He says he needs to finish with a grade of A in four subjects that he is taking. "I have got an A in three and I am just two points away in the other class," he says. "I plan on making it and playing at Auburn this year."...Duckworth, who was in Auburn Jan. 11th-13th for an official visit, said that trip was a very good one. "Auburn was everything I expected," he says..."Duckworth, who is currently playing basketball, also competes in baseball and track. "You name, I do it," he says of sports. He has surprisingly quick feet for such a large young man. His strength is a major asset, too, as he bench presses better than 400 pounds...Duckworth also has other talent. He was a standout in a recent school musical presentation. When asked if he is a blue-chip prospect as a singer, the big lineman laughed and said, "Yes sir, I can sing a little bit."
