Celebration Ceremony Date Changed For NCAA Champs

Auburn, Ala.--A celebration for the national champion men's swimming team has been postponed from Wednesday and has been re-scheduled for Friday, April 15th because of the threat of rain.

The event at Toomer's Corner in downtown Auburn has become a traditional way for the Tigers to celebrate national swimming titles. The university has eight overall NCAA Swimming and Diving championships.

Coach David Marsh and his Tigers will be there for a ceremonial rolling and celebration at 6 p.m. on the 15th. The Tigers wrapped up an outstanding season by finishing undefeated in dual meets and followed that by winning a ninth straight SEC title and a third straight NCAA title.

Auburn's seniors completed their careers with a 30-0 record in dual meet competitions.

Tiger swimmers and coaches take their traditional victory plunge into the pool after winning a fifth men's national championship this March.

AU athletics will provide tissue paper and there will be commemorative bumper stickers and autograph cards at the event. Marsh and athletics director Jay Jacobs will speak at the ceremony.

At the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis, the Tigers scored 491 points to finish first and were followed by Stanford (414), Arizona (388), California (381), Florida (284), Michigan (240), Texas (236), Northwestern (191), Southern Cal (189) and Georgia was 10th with 177.
