AU To Assist In Hurricane Relief Efforts

Auburn, Ala.--Auburn University announced on Thursday that it will join with the American Red Cross to raise fund for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

On Saturday, Sept. 10th when Mississippi State visits Jordan-Hare for a football game against Auburn, Red Cross volunteers will be accepting donations throughout the stadium.

Auburn and the 11 other schools in the SEC have pledged to collectively donate $1 million to hurricane damage relief efforts.

The money will go to provide shelter, food and other needs for those whose lives have been disrupted by the major disaster.

SEC commissioner Mike Slive says, "Hurricane Katrina has devastated the lives of victims in four of the SEC's states, Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi, and may continue to do so for months and years to come. We express our sympathies and prayers to everyone who has been impacted by this storm and we are anxious to assist in the recovery efforts.

"The SEC has been in the fabric of the South for many years," adds Slive. "Together, the SEC and its great fans will support our friends and neighbors in need."
