Fourth-Ranked Jackets To Visit Plainsman Park

Auburn, Ala.--The 22nd-ranked baseball Tigers will try to bounce back from a disappointing weekend series with a Tuesday night tester against nationally ranked Georgia Tech.

Weather permitting, the first pitch is scheduled for shortly after 6 p.m. CDT as the 24-10 Tigers face the fourth-ranked Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech is a very hot baseball team with nine straight victories and a 27-4 record, including a 6-2 conference record in the ACC.

Auburn will start freshman left-hander Arnold Hughey, who has been impressive this season. He has a 1-1 record with a 2.38 earned run average. The Yellow Jackets will counter with junior righthander Jeff Watchko, who is 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA.

The game is scheduled to be televised live by Fox Sports Net South. However, rain is in the forecast so this contest is in doubt. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets are also scheduled to play next Tuesday in Atlanta at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Tuesday's game is Family Night with fans buying two adult tickets receiving free admission for two children. During the game, fans will be given an opportunity to win Major League Baseball jerseys from Russell Athletic of former Auburn stars--No. 16 Kansas City Royals (Bo Jackson), No. 35 Chicago White Sox (Frank Thomas and No. 15 Oakland Athletics (Tim Hudson). The jersey of non-Tiger Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves will also be a prize. The winners will be selected by numbers printed on the game scorecards sold at the park on Tuesday.

Tech is led at the plate by Victor Menocal, who is hitting .430 and Eric Patterson, who is batting .375. As a team the Yellow Jackets are hitting .324 while holding opponents to a combined .244 batting average. Tech's team earned run average is 3.35 after pulling off a three-game sweep of the Duke Blue Devils.

The Tigers return to SEC action with a three-game series starting on Friday at Ole Miss. The Rebels swept Vandy this past weekend to improve to 25-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference.
