Auburn 48, South Carolina 7 Game Notes

Notes from Auburn's second SEC victory of the season are featured.

Notes from Auburn's 48-7 SEC football victory over South Carolina:

*Junior defensive end Marquis Gunn played one of his best games at Auburn. He had seven tackles, including four behind the line of scrimmage.

*Cornerback Jonathan Wilhite had nice tackles on special teams coverage on both punts and kickoffs, which was one of the highlights of the game. For the game, the juco transfer had five tackles, including four solos. The Gamecocks had three punt returns for an average of 0.333 yards per return.

*Auburn allowed the Gamecocks to average just over 18 yards on five kickoff returns.

*Brandon Cox didn't have a turnover for the fourth straight game and Auburn won for the fourth straight game, which is likely not a coincidence.

*Some of the veteran Auburn defensive players chewed out the backup defensive players on the sideline for allowing the Gamecocks to score in the fourth quarter, but that was about the only discouraging word on Saturday night from the Auburn side.

*The AU defense allowed the Gamecocks to convert just 2-12 third downs.

*Auburn's average field position to start drives was its own 47 yard line. In contrast, USC's average possession started on its own 21.

*The last four games Auburn has outscored opponents 104-0 in the first half.

*AU just missed giving the Steve Spurrier his worst beating as a head coach in the 41-point loss. He lost by 42 to the University of Tennessee in 1990 when he was getting started at Florida.
