Tigers Make Move In Baseball Standings

Auburn, Ala.--The Auburn Tigers got just what the doctor ordered this weekend with a sweep of the Vanderbilt Commodores at Plainsman Park. Trent Pratt was a big reason why with five hits and six RBI in three games.

The three wins get them right back in the thick of things in the SEC race heading into the last two weekends of play before the SEC Tournament in Hoover beginning May 22.

With a record of 30-19, 12-12 in conference play, the Tigers stand one-half game ahead of the Mississippi State Bulldogs and a full two games ahead of the Arkansas Razorbacks in the Western Division.

Overall the Tigers now reside in the seventh spot just ahead of Mississippi State with Tennessee and Arkansas right behind. Auburn trails both Ole Miss and Georgia by two full games, but gets a chance to erase part of that when it is host to the Bulldogs this weekend for a three-game series before finishing the year at Arkansas in two weeks.

"If we pick up a game next weekend that probably would do it," Auburn coach Steve Renfroe says about securing a spot in the tournament. "If somehow we could win one more than they (Arkansas) do next weekend I think that would probably do it. We're head-to-head above Tennessee and Mississippi State...really we're trying to solidify ourselves, that's the smartest way to do it."
