Fannin Talks Tigers and Gators

Mario Fannin talks about his recent official visit to check out the Florida Gators and where he stands with his commitment to Auburn.

Lovejoy, Ga.--Four-Star GA athlete Mario Fannin made his verbal commitment to the Auburn Tigers a few months back, but he always insisted that he would take a visit to check out the Florida Gators. He made that trip this past weekend and he talks about the visit right with Scout.com.

"I like the coaching staff and the way they coach the players," Fannin says of Gators. "The players themselves were great people and the city of Gainesville is a great city. They seemed excited about the bowl and all so I mean, it was pretty good."

Urban Meyer made sure to let the Peach State product just how much he'd like to have him as a Gator.

"Coach Meyer just basically told me to get down there. He told me that he remembered me from the New Jersey combine and how impressed he was. He liked my parents when he talked to them up there and he just liked me a lot."

The facilities at UF were a big plus to Fannin.

"The facilities were great. I saw the training room and what they had as far recouperative machines. The practice fields, the stadium and the lockerrooms were all great. They had all the newest technology as far as weight rooms go."

Despite the excellent visit to Florida, it appears as if they're still fighting an uphill battle to pry him away from the Auburn Tigers.

"I'm pretty solid to Auburn still," he says. "Nothing has changed really. My commitment is at about 97-98 percent."

Mario Fannin is one of the most athletic prospects in the state of Georgia for the class of 2006.

What seems to be separating the Tigers from the rest of the pack at this juncture?

"The main thing separating Auburn right now is their dynasty," he says. "They have a good foundation building and I don't see why we can't compete for a national title the next four years and on. They're bringing a great class in and they have some big recruits coming in next week. I'm going to go down there and see if I can't help coach Knox convince some more guys to join us. I'm just excited to get down there. I'm ready to get down there and put on my Auburn uniform."

Fannin has had two in-home visits so far.

"Coach Drayton from Florida was here last week and Coach Nall (Hugh Nall, Auburn offensive line coach) was here two weeks. We sat down with Coach Nall and had a great dinner as well as a few laughs. He felt like he was at home and that was what we wanted. Coach Drayton was very informative and he told us good stuff about Florida as well."
