Loachapoka High cornerback Corey Hart (23), a big defensive back at 6-1, 203 pounds, temporarily saved a touchdown by catching Smith before he got across the goal line, but on the next play Hoover running back Dennis King scored at right guard.
Terrance Thomas, a 6-0, 210-pounder who helped Eufaula High to a strong 2005 season, scored the first touchdown for the South All-Stars by returning a fumble 70 yards.
North All-Star defensive players included linebacker Corey Meadowns (44), 6-1, 240 from Moody, Kerry Murphy (72), a 6-4, 295 tackle from Hoover, and Darrius Jackson (60), a 5-11, 245 lineman from Fairfield High.
Williamson High's Nick Fairley, 6-4, 255, played for the South All-Stars, who were 16-7 winners over the North All-Stars in a game in which the defenses outplayed the offenses.
Linebacker ElTorro Freeman, 6-0, 200 from Benjamin Russell High in Alex City, stood out for the South defense.
Linebacker Jeffery Daniels (67) from Brantley High and end Darnodo Smith from Carver of Montgomery were two of the defensive standouts in the all-star game. Daniels is a big linebacker at 6-2, 225. Smith is a small end at 5-11, 185.
Houston Academy wide receiver Stanley Jones (31), 6-0, 180, prepares to make a move vs. 5-11, 185 North defensive back Frederick Gray of Gadsden. Jones had just made a catch on an underthrown long pass by QB Roosevelt Byrd, 6-1, 195 of Foley.
