Barrett Named SEC Freshman Of The Week

Auburn, Ala.—Auburn guard Rasheem Barrett was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Tuesday following back-to-back career high performances with 19 points vs. Winthrop and 28 points vs. Jacksonville State.

Barrett's performance in both games triggered 13-point come from behind victories for the Tigers, and the talented freshman averaged 23.5 points while hitting 65 percent of his shots from the field, 63 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the foul line for the week.

"Rasheem was terrific against both Jacksonville State and Winthrop," Auburn head coach Jeff Lebo said. "It was an outstanding week for our freshmen. Not only was Rasheem impressive, but Josh (Dollard) had 29 points vs. Jacksonville State and Vot (Korvotney Barber) had the game-winning tip-in vs. Winthrop."

Rasheem Barrett led the Tigers to two big wins last week.

Barrett scored 19 points in the Tigers' 64-62 win over the Winthrop Eagles on Thursday, including a stretch in the second half where the guard outscored the Eagles 14-0 himself. The Atlanta, Ga., native improved on the previous career-high performance on Saturday by scoring 28 points in only 26 minutes of action to lead the Tigers back again in the second half to an 87-83 win over Jacksonville State.

"This is a great honor, but I am more happy that we were able to get wins in both of our games," Barrett said. "It doesn't matter what we do individually. We come out as a team, and we win as a team."
