AU Pitcher Out for 2006 Season

Auburn, Ala.--Coach Tommy Slater said Monday that one of his teams pitchers will have to have surgery.

Auburn sophomore Cliff Mullins will miss the 2006 season after undergoing surgery on his shoulder.

"Cliff had a chronic, reoccurring shoulder injury that refused to respond to rehab and it was in his best interests to go ahead and have surgery to get things fixed," Auburn's team doctor, Mike Goodlett said. "It took great courage for Cliff to pitch as well as he did as a freshman after coming to Auburn with the pain already in his shoulder."

Mullins appeared in 16 games as a freshman, starting eight, and finished 2-2 with a 3.55 ERA in 38.0 innings of work.

Coach Tom Slater's Tigers open preseason practice on Friday.
