"Alabama and Auburn both really impressed me," Whitehead said. "I didn't think I would visit both schools. For a while I was only going to visit one in-state school, but now I am visiting both schools."
An in-home visit by Alabama head coach Mike Shula put the Tide in strong contention for Whitehead's signature.
"I underestimated Alabama," said Whitehead. "Coach Shula and coach (Paul) Randolph visited me last Thursday. They came to the school for about three hours, then came by my house for a minute. The visit went pretty good.
"The visit really made a big impact on me. The thing that has impressed me the most is the academic programs. The coaches explained everything to me. Everything about Alabama is standing out right now."
The nation's third-ranked defensive end has narrowed his college choices to four schools. He will visit three of those schools this month.
"I am going to Auburn this weekend," Whitehead said. "I will then go to Tennessee on January 20, and I will have my last visit to Alabama on January 27.
"I have my list down to four schools. It's those three schools and Louisville. I will either make my decision right after my last visit or I will make my decision on signing day," Whitehead added.
Whitehead talks about his other finalists.
Auburn: When I heard the news of Stanley McClover leaving for the NFL that helped Auburn's chances out a lot. Their academics are very good as well."
Louisville: "(Elvis) Dumervil leaving for the NFL gives me a chance to come in and play early. That is what really stands out about Louisville right now."
Tennessee: "Tennessee is still a little shaky. I need to look at their depth chart. They still have not sent me anything on their academics. I don't really know about Tennessee."
Senior Stats: Whitehead recorded 125 tackles, 25 sacks and 17 tackles for a loss from his defensive end position.
