Lady'backs Outlast Tigers

Auburn, Ala.--Arkansas held off a second half comeback from Auburn to stay unbeaten in SEC women's basketball play while Auburn dropped to 0-3.

Auburn fell 64-60 on Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena after trailing 35-22 at halftime.

The Tigers were led by little-used reserve Joanna Clayden, who scored 14 points in 12 minutes. She was 5-5 from the field, including four three-pointers.

Nitasha Brown added 13 points for the Tigers and freshman Sherrell Hobbs came off the bench to score 10 points in 27 minutes and also lead the team in rebounds with seven.

Arkansas got 16 points from Rochelle Vaughn and 13 from Dominique Washington to improve to 3-0 in the SEC and 11-5 overall. Auburn dropped to 9-7.

Other than Brown, no Auburn starter scored more than six points. DeWanna Bonner got the six points while starters Marita Payne and Aileen Rossouw finished with two points apiece and Whitney Boddie scored just four, but the freshman did add eight assists and two steals.

AU was out-rebounded 39-34 and had 19 turnovers, seven more than the home team, which was cheered on by a crowd of 2,194.

AU hit 44.2 percent from the field and 5-9 threes along with 9-11 free throws.

The Lady'backs hit 35.9 percent of their shots, but made 13 threes (43.3 percent). Arkansas hit only 5-17 foul shots.
