Blanc Discusses Trip to Auburn

Deerfield Beach High star Mike Blanc discusses his official visit to Auburn University.

Deerfield Beach, Fla.--Mike Blanc's third official visit was a trip to SEC power Auburn and the Deerfield Beach High lineman says he enjoyed his opportunity to see the Tigers.

"My host was big Ben (offensive guard Ben Grubbs) and I really enjoyed my visit," Blanc says. "I told the coaches I will probably be calling them next week to tell them about my decision. I was really interested in seeing how my visit went to Auburn. I had a lot of fun."

Blanc headed home early from his visit to Auburn so he could be back in time to play in Sunday evening's Dade-Broward All-Star Game. It will be the second all-star game for the lineman, who is being recruited by colleges as both a defensive and offensive player.

"I played in the North-South All-Star Game and I did really good," he says. "I had a tackle for a loss, a fumble recovery, four tackles and I shared a sack. I am looking forward to playing in the Dade-Broward All-Star Game."

Blanc, a four-year starter in high school, says, "I got to meet a lot of the Auburn players. We all went out together and they showed me around everywhere. I liked Auburn. It is a pretty cool place."

The 6-4, 270-pounder started on his high school varsity team as a defensive end his freshman season. He moved inside to tackle as a sophomore and added offensive tackle duties to his resume his junior and senior years.

"Most of the coaches like me better on defense, but I find playing offensive line real easy," he says. "Most defensive ends try to use quickness and I have enough to keep up with them."

Blanc visited Rutgers in December and last week was at Michigan State, a trip he notes that he really enjoyed. His next official visit is scheduled for Arizona State this coming weekend.

"I would give my Auburn visit like an eight or nine," he says. "For my Michigan State visit a lot of players weren't there because they were on break. The Auburn visit was really tight. So far the Auburn trip was one of my best visits."

Blanc, who is being recruited by Auburn running backs coach Eddie Gran, notes that the AU assistant has done a good job in that area. "Coach Gran is a real great guy," the lineman says. "I like him because he's straightforward. He doesn't hold anything back."

The lineman, who had previously been to Auburn for two summer football camps, may take a visit to Miami on Jan. 27th, but that is uncertain. However, he does note that after taking an official visit to check out the Tigers that Auburn is a college he is strongly considering.
