In addition to facing the Kentucky Wildcats in a game that will televised nationally by ESPN, the Tigers will team up with the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society to do their part in the Coaches vs. Cancer program.
As part of the night Coach Jeff Lebo will be host for a silent auction prior to the game at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. Lebo will auction items that include autographed items from himself and Coach Tommy Tuberville, Marquis Daniels, Carnell Williams and many more Auburn stars.
Also a trip for two to the SEC Tournament in Nashville on March 9-12 will be auctioned. In addition apparel from many of Auburn's athletic teams will also be in the auction.
Former Tiger great Carnell Williams is one of the many Auburn celebrities who will have items in the auction.
Money raised from the Coaches vs. Cancer night funds the American Cancer Society's research initiatives, patient services and educational campaigns. "Cancer is a tough competitor, but our team is committed to beating it," Lebo said. "We're excited to be able to support the American Cancer Society's efforts through this program and we know our fans will rally for such an important cause."
Since joining together in 1993, the NABC and American Cancer Society has passed the word along to millions of young Americans. This time fans will hear a story with Auburn ties as former quarterback Randy Campbell will tell everyone about his battle with the disease at the age of 32.
"Twenty years before I was diagnosed with cancer the survival rate would have been 50/50," Campbell said. "Now, because of the research founded by the American Cancer Society, my survival rate was 95 percent. I want to do whatever I can to help the American Cancer Society raise money to continue its cancer research and hopefully we will see some forms of cancer eradicated in our lifetime."
