Scenes from Thursday's practice at Plainsman Park. The Tigers open their season Feb. 3 at home against VMI.

First baseman Andy Bennett is expected to be in the mix along with Ryan Stanley this season. Bennett is a strong left-hander that transferred from Miami while Stanley is a righty that came from Georgia Tech.

Second baseman Tyler Johnstone returns as one of Auburn's most experienced players. Now completely healthy, Johnstone should provide a solid stick at the top of the order.

Built more like a first baseman, 6-4, 215 shortstop Justin Bristow has the best combination of range, glove and arm that Auburn has seen in many years at the position. He was rated the number two freshman prospect in college baseball by Baseball America.

Center fielder Bruce Edwards talks things over with third base coach Butch Thompson. Edwards has improved as much as anyone on the team since last season and should provide a big lift both in the field and at the plate.

Second baseman Josh Stapleton is a transfer from South Alabama. A Daphne native, the 6-1, 188 Stapleton gives the Tigers a solid glove and bat off the bench and should be a solid replacement for Johnstone next season.
